#MamaView w/ Nicole

What’s a #MamaView?

Ever wondered if you’re totally alone in this “being a mom in 2017 thing?” You’re not. #MamaViews are interviews conducted over Facebook messenger that aim to take a deep dive into what it’s really like to be a #MillennialMom. (Yeah, yeah…we completed the interview over messenger, but amidst our busy schedules, could you see us really being able to meet in person? Plus, I didn’t have to write up our conversation afterward, so there. lol)

Hey Nicole! Question #1: Tell me about yourself? How old are you? How many kids do you have? What’s a typical day in the life look like?

Nicole
Hey!! I am a single mother of 1 very strong-willed 5-year-old girl! 😄 I am 27 years old and work a full-time job. I work 10 hours shift through the weekend so I can have time with my daughter during the week. We live in a two bedroom apartment by ourselves. A typical work/school day for us is filled with caffeine, homework, snacks, laughs and that time at the end of the night where we try to convince each other we don’t need to go to bed yet. I work an early shift at 630am and if you know my daughter she is NOT a morning person she enjoys sleeping in till 10. So typically I wake up around 445/5am so I can get showered dressed and lunch ready for my work day. If I don’t get up that early I look like a hot mess with that crazy mom bun in my hair and believe me this happens way too much haha. Right before we have to leave the house I dress my daughter in her school clothes while she’s still dead asleep, it’s literally like dressing a big floppy doll 🙄  while she mumbles I need 5 more minutes of sleep. Once she’s looking decent enough to get out the door I’ll get her to the car for her to pass back out so I can drop her off to her sitters’ before she goes to school for the day. After a long 10 hour day at work I get home around 530pm just in time to get the little one sitting down to finish homework while I get dinner ready for her. We would like to say we take a bath every night before bed but my goodness things get busy and we all just want to relax or we need to pick up stuff around the house so I try to get her in the bath most nights haha. Then usually work days the house is a mess cause honestly there’s not enough hours in the day during the week. Then finally our weekend comes which falls on Tuesday-Thursday. We really enjoy our weekends today cause we get to spend real time together!! I get up early to make breakfast before I get the little one up for school. Once she’s up eaten I take her off to school which is half day kindergarten for 3 hours. During that free time I will head to the gym to get my time in before I pick her back up. Once we get home we do homework and lunch then the rest of the day is to spend one in one time together whether that be play with games have her help me clean or go on an outdoor adventure. Our typical day can be busy and thrown off day-to-day. Some days we don’t get anything accomplished or we make bigger messes or have small emotional breakdowns, other days may be filled with errands and fun events. At the end of the day after what may seem like a long day or fun day all the work is worth it to raise such a beautiful smart girl who calls me mom.
Melissa
Wow! You sound just as busy as me. Glad I’m not alone!
Nicole
Haha right hopefully there were not too many typing errors in there haha
I can’t imagine raising two boys tho haha 😄
Melissa
No worries! This is #realtalk girl! Bring on the typing errors. And yes…raising boys is intense. Lately they keep tag teaming the sickness. Right now I believe Leo has pink eye. I’m sure his bro will have it tomorrow. Lmao
Nicole
Oh no poor guys I swear they will share everything with being sick!! Like sneezing in each other’s faces or yours haha
Melissa
For sure. They gave me a nasty cold that is still lingering on…. and on…. and on…. hopefully I don’t get the pink eye! Aghhh!
Nicole
Wear goggles for the next week haha
Melissa
Bahahahahahaha. Right!
So with the craziness of being a mom, what have you done to make your life just a little bit easier? Do you have any go-to advice, tips or tricks?

Biggest tip that helps me out to get through the work week is to meal plan. If I can plan out all my meals for just myself for the week ahead of time it makes it a lot easier to stay on track with myself. Then if I have myself all taken care of ahead of time it’s easier to take care of my kid. One thing that drives me crazy is my daughter always asking for a snack at the worst times and so often so if I can stock up on healthy snacks in a drawer she can reach it eliminates that little pet Peeve. Oh and a glass of wine once in a while keeps me from going crazy haha.
Melissa
bahahahaha. lol. That’s awesome! Where do you get your meal planning info? I really want to start doing this!
Nicole
I just find healthy recipes online or just do stuff I like from chicken and veggies or broccoli and beef or salads and bulk cook for the four work days and split it in containers so I can just grab them and go in the mornings. Weekends are chaotic with eating tho haha.
This week I made turkey meatloaf muffins and have green beans and salad to go with it and I just made it a big meal and split it into 4 contains for my days it makes mornings a lot easier.
Melissa
Nice! Well I’m going to have to try that. Problem with me is I have 3 children who are picky eaters (one of those children being my husband). Lmao Here I am wanting to try new, fun things like spinach noodles and they wouldn’t touch that stuff with a 10-foot pole! Lol
Nicole
Haha totally understandable with the picky eating especially if you have a hubby to be eating with too. Usually weekends I’ll eat whatever Eden does which ends up either chicken nuggets or spaghetti. haha. But at work is when I really have that flexibility to just eat one thing haha.
MELISSA
So here is juicy question. How is dating life in this day and age?
Being married, I haven’t been in the dating game for 10 years, so I’m curious!
Nicole
Dating life sucks! For reals! Haha. It’s a lot of life to balance with getting to know someone and also raise a child. Finding time to meet new people or get out. It’s that part of life where you have to see I sacrificing time with your child to give your time to someone else. Most of the time when I meet new people I have a hard battle taking time away from Eden. But most of the people I have met in the past we would eventually come to a spot where we would all do activities together which was a lot less stressful but again it is hard to find that person that is good enough for me and a good enough person to raise Eden. I find myself a lot picker in my choices and a lot more patient waiting for someone to come to us than me reaching out to date a lot.
Melissa
Well that’s good. Nothing better than raising the standards for the perfect guy. With that being said, what are the top 5 qualities you look for in a man? How has this list changed since you became a mom?
Nicole
My top 5 qualities I look for in a man now that I am a mom…. I feel like I’m on a dating website now haha just kidding 😄 1. STABILITY I look for a man who has his life in order with a job and home life so he is in the right position to take on a family life and child. 2. PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING I look for someone who can be patient with getting to know a 5-year-old cause that can be difficult to hop Into pleasing a child. And also have that pure understanding of our time. 3.FAMILY VALUES I look for a guy that has strong family values as in their own family life and the influences on ours. Someone who has respect as a person for other to be a good example in Eden’s life. 4. ADVENTUROUS me and Eden and my family are really outdoorsy people we spend time making fun memories and getting out and doing things I look for that quality in a man so they can keep up with our fast pace life and be our adventure partner. 5. LOVING AND CARING I look for that real love to share with not only me but to love my daughter. My qualities have definitely changed from my days when I wasn’t a mom; my top priorities in the past were always tall funny smart good looking and adventurous but now I bear towards what a family life is and someone how is actually compatible with to share a family with not just have fun and mess around.
Melissa
Oh you didn’t know you were on a dating show? lmao. Ok enough dating questions. lol. Last and final question. As a millennial yourself, do you feel the “millennial stigma” is accurate?

Nicole
I forgot I didn’t answer the last question life got to me haha
I think a lot of views of millennial moms can be we are lazy or not creative. But as a millennial Mom myself I believe we work harder more of us carry jobs and we kick some serious ass haha. We juggle multiple roles and raise some strong self-sufficient children.

Melissa
No worries! And I love your answer to that question. I feel the same way sister! Well thank you for taking the time to share your #millennialmomstory! You rock girl! 🙂
